  1. The design of car parking areas can be challenging, especially when trying to accommodate the local authority’s minimum number of parking spaces required whilst maintaining design, level of service for circulatory movements and car park access requirements.

Using international experience and current parking management systems, we provide car park designs and layouts with solutions to cope with peak-period parking demand including methods to manage multi-storey car parks with non-uniform utilisation on all storeys.

With residential and business parking facilities now incorporating service areas for waste management, freight deliveries, our designs include route management (ITS), swept path analysis and signage concepts to ensure users are managed in a safe and non-conflicting manner.

  2. We have produced car park layout designs and CPMP’s for client’s operating shops, residential, schools, universities and hospitals in the UK and internationally.

EXAMPLES

RESIDENTIAL REDEVELOPMENT, EDGEWARE, LONDON

SPA Edgeware car park design
  1. In late 2021, as part of a proposed residential redevelopment in Edgware, Greater London, Ayen Consulting provided an accepted car park layout to assist with the client’s site master plan for 8 no self-contained flats.

  2. Due to current land constraints, the client was challenged in fulfilling the number of resident parking spaces required by the Local Highway Authority.

  3. We provided a car park design supported by swept path analysis and was able to assist our client further with single-carriage way access to an underground car park by implementing shuttle working traffic signals using microwave vehicle detectors (MVD) to recognise cars waiting to access the sub-terrain car park.

  4. Vehicle access to the site was restricted by a signal-controlled junction with a major arterial road fronting the site.

  5. Ayen Consulting designed the site access with a left-out arrangement with southbound traffic required to perform a U-turn manoeuvre at the major junction successfully demonstrated by swept path analysis.

SBERBANK TECHNOPARK, MOSCOW

  1. Sberbank is the largest bank in Russia and Eastern Europe, with over 70% of the Russian population reliant on Sberbank’s services.

On behalf of Zaha Hadid Architects, Ayen Consulting provided highway and traffic engineering input on a proposed 262,000 sqm Sberbank Technopark as part of a new corporate district in Moscow accommodating 17,000 staff.  Working closely with ZHA and AKT II structural engineers, we provided well-received designs for a sub-level internal car park with servicing delivery and waste area with associated internal ramp, vehicle, and security access.

Using AutoTrack software, our designs demonstrated Swept Path Analysis (SPA) for vehicle turning movements on all internal two-way horizontal curves, junctions, and service areas within the subterranean facility.

The SPA had to replicate vehicle characteristics (i.e. dimensions, speeds) and traffic behaviour expected within the development including parking and queuing patterns during the 24-hour development operation.

'Excellent and very professional service provided by Ayen Consulting to support our Local Plan objection. Efficient data collection with robust analysis and clear presentation in a comprehensive technical report; all completed within a very tight timescale.'
